It was the world's longest suspension bridge when it opened in 1964 and is named for Giovanni da Verrazano, who was the first European to explore New York Harbor. Verrazano-Narrows Bridge joins Brooklyn and Staten Island and makes important connections on the highway system. It has 693-foot towers and its longest span is 4,260 feet. More than 200,000 vehicle use the bridge daily.
