First recorded in 1789, it is believed an earthquake unblocked the conduit of this geyser, allowing it to actively burst. Over the centuries it has had various levels of activity, but currently Strokkur is one of the most reliably active geysers in the Haukadalur Valley. It's highest recorded height is 60 meters (196 feet) and on average it reaches 10-20 meters (32-65 feet), forming fountains every 3 minutes on average.
