The impressive 1,078-mile long river begins in the Rocky Mountains in Yellowstone National Park flowing through Grand Teton National Park and the U.S. states of Wyoming, Idaho, Oregon and Washington to empty into the Pacific Ocean. Snake River got its name from a misunderstood Shoshone tribe sign meaning fish and it the largest tributary of the Columbia River. The river was explored during the Lewis and Clark Expedition in 1805. Snake River runs through North America's deepest river gorge Hells Canyon.
