One of the most popular site sin Iceland besides the Golden Circle route, Snaefellsjokul Glacier and its surrounding national park are the oldest natural protected region in Iceland. An active volcano, the glacier stands at 1,446 m high and is most well known for appearing in the Jule's Verne novel, "The Journey to the Center of the Earth," as the actual gateway to the center of the earth. Visitors to the park need only take a 2 hour ride from Reykjavik to explore this gorgeous, natural region via hiking, horseback riding, or snowmobiling.
