Although it dates back to the 18th century, Plaza de Espana has a more modern look than your typical Spanish square, and two of Madrid’s largest buildings are found adjacent to it. Plaza de Espana’s saving grace is a lot of trees, a large fountain and a massive monument to "Don Quixote" author Miguel de Cervantes, at the foot of which you will also find statues of his immortal characters Don Quixote and Sancho Panza.
