This high-end square marks the start of the rue de la Paix, Paris’ go-to shopping district. Built in 1702, the square became the location of the Colonne Vendome in the early 1800s. Napoleon had the column constructed to commemorate his victory at Austerlitz, and it depicts scenes from the Napoleonic Wars with a statue of the emperor atop it. Today the square is lined with residences, luxurious retail stores, the renowned Hotel Ritz and the Hotel Vendome. Walk in the footsteps of its famous residents such as Frederic Chopin, George Sand, and Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald.
