Located beside the Leaning Tower of Pisa and Duomo Pisa, the Pisa Baptistery of St. John is the second building to be constructed in the Piazza dei Miracoli. Taking 200 years to construct, the Baptistery demonstrates the transition in architectural styles in Italy from Romanesque to Gothic, as the lower half is based on Romanesque techniques while the upper half features Gothic, pointed arches. It was constructed by Italian architect Diotisalvi, who's signature can be found on the Baptistery's pillars with the date when they were placed there, 1153.
