The Venetian Lagoon island has been a base for glass-making for more than 700 years as Venice mandated the glass artisans move there in 1291 because the trade was a fire hazard. Murano glass-makers still produce many products today and have trademarked glass made on the island. Murano's Palazzo Giustinian contains the Murano Glass Museum that has various exhibits and offers the history of glass-making. Other sites on the island to visit are Santa Maria e San Donato and San Pietro Martire churches.
