The stadium was designed by Roger Taillibert as the main venue for the 1976 Montreal Summer Olympics and its well-known 574-foot tower has an angle of 45 degrees. The 56,000-seat Olympic Stadium is used for many different events including sports, shows, exhibitions and fairs. The international symbol of Montreal is sometimes called "The Big O" because of its doughnut shape and its name. The stadium's tower contains two souvenir shops.
