One of the oldest parts of the city, the Old Port of Montreal has served the city since 1611, serving as an important trading outpost for French fur traders in North America. It continued to be an invaluable asset in the city's development until the early 1990's when the port was redeveloped to be one of this city's major entertainment and tourist districts. Still popular for fishing, the port is also host to everyone from roller-bladers to Cirque du Soleil, which hosts a new show here every 2 years. Depending on teh time of year, guests are treated to a variety of events, including Igloofest, the Montreal Ice Canoe Challenge, Montreal International Reggae Festival, and RibFest.
