First designed as a velodrome arena for the 1976 Olympics in Montreal, this structure was converted into a biodome that opened in 1992 with more than 4,500 animals representing 250 species and 500 plants species. Montreal Biodome has the ecosystems of Gulf of St. Lawrence, Laurentian Maple Forest, Tropical Rainforest of the Americas and the Polar Sub-Arctic Labrador Coast & Sub-Antarctic Islands. Each habitat has plants, animals and climate of the real geographic region. Visitors will see animals such as lynx, penguins, macaws, piranhas, snakes and bats.
