This historic combat zone was the site of a bloody three-day battle that resulted in the death, injury, disappearance or capture of approximately 51,000 troops. Gettysburg Battlefield has nearly 1,400 memorials to Union and Confederate soldiers who fought in the Civil War Battle of Gettysburg in 1863 in the form of sculptures, statues, markers and tablets. The Union led by Gen. George G. Meade defeated the Confederacy led by Gen. Robert E. Lee in the famous battle that involved more than 165,000 soldiers. The battlefield is located in Gettysburg National Military Park.
