As a part of Toronto's downtown, Chinatown is always bustling with crowds milling about amongst the many retail shops, groceries and restaurants. The city's first Chinatown originated in the 1890s where Toronto's City Hall and Nathan Phillips Square are now located. Today's Chinatown at Spadina Avenue and Dundas Street already had many Chinese residents when the first Chinatown occupants moved their beginning in the 1950s displaced by construction.
