Asian restaurants, outdoor fairs, markets and a lively nightlife define Montreal's Chinatown located on La Gauchetière Street and on portions of Saint Urbain Street and Saint Lawrence Boulevard. Chinese immigrants began arriving in Montreal in the late 1800s with many starting businesses or working for railroad companies. Montreal's Chinatown has the country's only Chinese hospital and the city's biggest Chinese school as well as the most paifang of any other Chinese region in Canada.
