Located along the Ottawa River, the uniquely-designed museum has an architectural theme of "regeneration" signifying war's impact on land and how natures regenerates from it. Canadian War Museum contains around 500,000 artifacts, 55,000 book volumes at its Military Research Centre, 330 original artworks, 135 audiovisual materials and 28 Victoria Cross medals. Its Memorial Hall has just one artifact - the headstone of a World War I unknown soldier. The national military history museum dates back to 1880 and has been in its current location since 2005.
