Built in the late 14th century to commemorate a military victory (Batalha translates to "battle"), its construction spanned two centuries. The gigantic medieval tomb of Dom João and his wife Queen Phillipa is found in the center of the chapel. From the detailed stained glass windows to the fine stone embroidery found throughout, this is a cultural treasure you will not want to miss.
