See uniquely colored rock formations of green, red, pink, purple and yellow in the Black Mountains within Death Valley National Park. Artist's Palette is said to be hued by the oxidation of various metals. The entire formation is called the Artist's Drive formation and developed millions of years ago. The spot can be reached by taking the 9-mile Artist's Drive. The National Park Service recommends late afternoon as the best time to photograph the site.
