At 6,961 m (22,939 ft), Aconcagua is the highest mountain outside of Asia and the highest mountain in the Western and Southern Hemisphere. 112 km (70 miles) north of Mendoza city in Argentina, it rests in the Andes mountain range and is host to a number of glaciers. The most famous of these is the Polish Glacier, which acts as the main route for reaching the peak. Despite its height and the risk of altitude sickness, the mountain is considered an easy climb, not requiring ropes, pins, or axes.
