This was our 1st bus-tour ever, and with our 4 year old daughter (first time travelling). We worried about many issues, including being with so many Asian (mainly Chinese) tourists and bilingual explanations, especially as we are typical Am..ericans and picky about many things. Turns out we'd much rather go on an Asian tour in the future than with a majority of Americans - no complaints from the Chinese tourists who were very quiet and respectful and don't bother anyone in any way - ideal travel companions. Much better than picky and whiny typical Americans like us hehe. ;) Charles (our tour guide) hosted us solo for his first time on a tour and he was just SOO nice, gave great explanations of what we were seeing in good English (then Mandarin Chinese translation for the rest of the tourists after English). He was so polite, respectful, efficient, caring & ultra patient - a dream guide and along with the skilled bus driver, doing a thankless job, so our THANKS to Charles (and the bus driver whose name I don't recall) for making the experience so memorable! One caveat we didn't read well about - there is additional cost in the form of a service fee which is used to pay your tour guide and bus driver separately (this info is in the details & terms but we had missed it). Basically bring LOTS of cash (say $400-$500 to be safe) as you'll pre-pay for the optional extras in cash on the bus like the SF City Tour and Hearst Castle for example. Your tour guide nicely gets all the tickets for you for your group. Great tour but also understand you're limited to 45 mins to 1 hour on average for site seeing and picture taking and eating, so you must be efficient and fast. Also note that the bus bathroom is difficult to use when moving and hopefully you can hold your need for the restroom and wait for stop/eat/bathroom breaks every 2 to 2-1/2 hours on the trip (well spaced & planned).

Read full review

The Museum of the North was a highlight, with its extensive exhibits that showcase the natural and cultural history of Alaska. The Santa Claus House was a fun and unique stop, bringing the joy of Christmas to life.
